Coming back into academic learning was quite a daunting prospect when I started in my mid-30s, especially having no qualifications from school. I had achieved around 15 construction qualifications over the years, but there was nothing academic or anything that would support a career on the professional side of the sector.

The teaching at the University Centre has been fantastic, and I’ve felt comfortable and at home in the classroom. My progress over the last year would not be possible without the quality of teaching that I have received and the content in the course which has developed my knowledge.

I have been lecturing for 18 years, and my considerable experience includes eight years at the only construction specialist college in Britain and here at the University Centre for the last decade.

I continue to participate in the Construction industry in a management and advice capacity particularly in the refurbishment and services sector. The Construction sector is a thriving one, and I am passionate about its success.

I enjoy seeing newcomers take their first steps into the profession, in whatever line of work, and I’m enthusiastic to see tradespeople promoted to management and technician positions and witness the career progression that HE qualifications deliver.
