Within this programme there are three pathways available to students:
- BEng (Hons) Engineering (Advanced Manufacturing)
- BEng (Hons) Engineering (Aerospace Engineering)
- BEng (Hons) Engineering (Electrical and Electronic)
Students all apply to the BEng (Hons) Engineering programme, but must select a single pathway on entry.
This programme is offered in partnership with Liverpool John Moores University and is aimed at those who want to improve on their Foundation Degree or HND in and move into a role in Engineering with more responsibility and better prospects along with potentially a higher earning potential.
Full-time attendance is one day and one evening a week for one year, part-time is one day or one evening for two years.
This degree is also available as a three-year full-time or five-year part-time programme. The full programme includes the modules from the HNC and HND Engineering. Candidates entering at level 4 (1st year university equivalent) will complete the HNC, then the HND before taking these level 6 modules. Candidates entering at level 4 can apply to any of these qualifications and College staff will ensure that they are registered for the right award(s).
The course comprises four taught modules (three of which are compulsory in all pathways) and a double module project.
Assessment mainly based on coursework. Examinations make up a maximum of 17% of the assessment by value.
Candidates should have a level 5 qualification (typically, HND or Foundation Degree) in a subject closely related to their intended pathway.
It is normally a requirement that:
1) HNDs were passed with an overall Merit, or Foundation Degrees have an overall average mark of 50% or higher
2) All mathematics modules within students' level 4 and 5 studies were passed.
Students offering different qualifications, or with lesser grades than stated above are welcome to apply and will be considered through our Non-Standard Entry processes.
Qualified engineers are much in demand for their rigorous approach to work roles and problem solving. Their skills open up a wide range of other career opportunities and these exist in a diverse area of fields which could include research, design and development, commissioning, project management, technical sales, technical journalism and patent work.
