Course overview

This programme will equip students with additional knowledge and skills needed to take that next step in your career. You will learn new technical knowledge, plus further develop skills that are highly valued in the workplace. You will also take part in a project that will address tackling real-world engineering problems. It will require you to use a variety of knowledge from different disciplines and develop new skills in project management.

What will I learn

You will study four core modules:
• Project (inc. Project Management)
• The professional engineer
• Engineering systems design and simulation
• Engineering innovation, creativity, entrepreneurship and problem solving
Then you will select an additional one module from the following options:
• Microprocessor applications
• Electrical power

How will the courses be assessed?

A series of written and practical work is assessed by your lecturers and will determine your overall grade

Entry requirements

This programme is designed for students who have completed a
Higher National Diploma, Foundation Degree or equivalent level 5
qualification in a subject closely related to Electrical and Electronic
Engineering .
If you have completed the Pearson BTEC HND Electrical and
Electronic Engineering at Nelson and Colne College you will have all
the required prior knowledge. You will also have all the required
prior knowledge if you have completed the UCLan HND in Electronic
Engineering.
If you are offering other entry qualifications than a Pearson BTEC
HND Electrical and Electronic Engineering studied at Nelson and
Colne College or UCLan HND in Electronic Engineering you may apply
and will be considered on the basis of both the extent and level of
your prior achievement and on the subject knowledge gained. The
consent of the University Programme Leader is required for all
admissions other than from the College’s own HND programmes or
the UCLan HND Electronic Engineering.
Normally, you will need an overall Merit at HND or a Foundation
Degree average mark of 50% or higher. If you have an HND with an
overall Pass grade or a Foundation Degree with and average mark
below 50% but can show the ability and commitment necessary to
be successful at level 6 you may be admitted at the discretion of the
relevant admissions tutor.
