The University Centre has excellent facilities and I always feel relaxed and at ease when on site. I've yet to meet a staff member who isn't friendly and helpful and it's a nice change when everyone greets you with a 'good morning'.
I have had spinal surgery several times and require a crutch to get around. I had to retire from my previous career and I am registered as disabled, but am slowly on the mend. The HE team have really helped, advising me on courses and a career path, and assessing my needs regarding my mobility. The biggest thing my tutors have done is to boost my self-confidence."

Course: Access to HE (Social Science)
Ambition: To become a teacher
My dream was to teach on Access to HE, and now I am Programme Leader.
Every day I see students like me, making their dreams a reality.
I fell in love with Sociology and have since specialised in gender and sexuality, sociology of mental health and recovery, crime and deviance, criminal justice and penal policy, and social justice and social inequality. All of these I teach on our degrees with the Nelson and Colne College Group University Centre."
