Course overview

This exciting new course is in partnership with BFC in the Community and endorsed by Liverpool John Moores University, which is within the top 10 universities in the country for Sports Science courses.

This course is ideal for those looking to enhance their Sports knowledge, experience and advance their career opportunities.

This qualification can be a standalone Level 4 qualification which gives students their first step into the field of Sport Coaching and Performance, but it can also lead on to the full BSc (Hons) Sport Coaching and Performance degree offered at our university centre.

What does the programme involve?

Shadowing Coaches delivering on many projects and community activities including disability sport, walking football, health provision, the community kitchen, school provision
Wide-ranging active work experience with Burnley FC in the Community
Blend of academic study with real-world experience
Completion of the FA Level 1 Coaching Award
Participation in the National Football Youth League Under - 19's and 23's Football Youth League, football training session three times a week, including strength and conditioning sessions and match analysis
Burnley Football Club Training and Match Day Kits are also provided.

How will the courses be assessed?

Teaching and learning will comprise a combination of formal lectures, small group seminars, discussion forums, one to one tutorials, computer based learning and practical laboratory or coaching sessions.

During the lectures, students will be introduced to core concepts with examples drawn from sports science and coaching contexts. Students will have the opportunity to apply knowledge gained in the lectures into a practical setting using specially designed activities during seminars and practical sessions in the Sports Science Laboratory, the Sports Hall or in the field. Seminars and practical sessions have been designed to allow students to gain 'hands on' experience of using equipment, testing procedures and field-based assessments.

Theoretical and practical use of research methods has been built into the modules allowing the student to analyse data when it is collected to enhance understanding and utilisation of statistical methods.

Entry requirements

96 UCAS points from A Levels or BTEC National Diploma
GCSE Maths and English at grade C/4 or equivalent.
A recognised Access to HE Diploma
Mature students who do not have prior academic qualifications in relevant subjects, but have work/ life experience may also be considered on an individual basis.

Progression

Having successfully completed the programme, you can consider progressing to the full honours degree.
