Course overview

This qualification will introduce learners to using counselling skills and personal development. The course is useful for anyone who would like to develop their use of counselling skills for use in either work or a personal capacity.

This qualification does not qualify learners to practise as a counsellor.

What will I learn

You will be introduced to the three main approaches in Counselling and learn how these are applied in a therapeutic setting. You will discuss diversity and core ethical issues in a counselling relationship. A significant part of the course is practicing counselling skills and personal development. These skills and knowledge are useful for personal and work life.

How will the courses be assessed?

Throughout the course you will take part in a range of activities, for example, presentations, group work, independent learning, triads etc. You will be taught by highly experienced tutors, who will model their counselling skills and show you practical examples.

Entry requirements

There are no specific entry requirements, however GCSE English or equivalent is desirable.

Progression

Most of our learners move on to the Level 3 Diploma in Counselling Studies which prepares them to progress on to a degree or other higher education studies in the counselling field.
For some, this course is a stepping stone to our various level 3 Access to Higher Education Diploma. Each learner on this course will discuss their future choice with their tutor and/or other services within the Nelson and Colne College Group.
