“I started to study on the Access to HE course in my early 30s. Being a student on the Access course changed my life, and I experienced how that year changed the lives of my fellow students too.
“We became more aware of the world around us, we debated, learned together, and studied hard. It was the best thing I ever did.
“My dream became to teach on Access to HE, and now I am Programme Leader. Every day I see students like me, making their dreams reality.
“I fell in love with Sociology and have since specialised in gender and sexuality, sociology of mental health and recovery, crime and deviance, criminal justice and penal policy, and social justice and social inequality. All of these I teach on our degrees with the Nelson and Colne College Group University Centre.
“The Access to HE Diploma is an exciting course, high paced and demanding. Each year I take pride in seeing students progress into universities across the country, and enjoy brilliant careers beyond that.”
